WAYNEDALE BOY SCOUTS RETIRE FLAG
Tuesday, March 30, the Waynedale Boy Scout Troop 344 visited the Baer Field Toastmasters Club to retire the club’s U.S. flag and dedicate a new one.
Troop 344 is lead by Andy Dukarski. An Honor Guard of John Dukarski, Rob Dukarski, and Bronson Long performed the ceremony with great dignity and respect. At the close of the ceremony, the club was lead in the Pledge of Allegiance.
We at Toastmasters were greatly impressed by the respect shown to the old flag in retiring it and to the new one in opening it for dedication. There were thirteen members and guests present for the ceremony. Following the ceremony, President Linda Demorest thanked the troop and praised their treatment of our country’s proud colors.
Toastmaster David Wilkins presented more information on how to display the U.S. flag as outlined in a book available from the American Legion. Linda Demorest spoke on the history of our flag and what it has meant to our nation from our beginnings. Fred Horne, a visiting Toastmaster, spoke of a time when his son questioned why he had such great feelings for our flag.
By the end of the evening, many of us had a new appreciation for our flag and the dedication of our founding fathers and the many others who have given their lives for the “Republic for which it stands.”
