PEDDEN RECEIVES MELVIN JONES AWARD
Saturday morning, May 10, 2008 at 10 am, the Foster Park Lions Club presented the Lions top award, the Malvin Jones Fellow Award, to Mr. Pat Pedden. He managed and owned Karen’s Kitchen for many years.
Pat had allowed the Foster Park Lions Club to sell Christmas trees, pumpkins, and garage sale items on his lot. He did not charge for the electricity and would take nothing when offered. One thousand dollars has been donated to the Lions International in Pat’s name by our Foster Park Lions Club to obtain this award. The money will be used to help eliminate blindness worldwide. Lions International is right in the middle of a massive multi-million dollar program to establish eye hospitals worldwide, in an aggressive effort to eliminate all preventable blindness. The Foster Park Lions Club has taken a great interest in this effort as the Melvin Jones Award is the thirty-third such award the club has presented. They have presented more of these awards than any other club in the Lions district. The award was given on behalf of the club’s District Governor Chris Smith.
The new owner of this diner, Chris Wilson, has agreed to allow the Foster Park Lions Club to remain on his lot. The new restaurant is no longer called “Karen’s Kitchen” but rather has taken on the name “Big Daddy’s Diner.” The new owner has five sons, ages 2 through 17. He will be open seven days a week.
