CREATING, PROTECTING JOBS MUST REMAIN STATE PRIORITY

While reforming Indiana’s property tax system is Job 1 for Senate Republicans, protecting and creating high-paying jobs for hard-working Hoosiers must remain a top priority for state government as well.

General Assembly members are committed to giving Gov. Mitch Daniels the tools needed to fix our state economy. Our bipartisan efforts are paying off. Indiana’s unemployment rate remains the lowest in the Midwest at 4.6 percent. Today, 100,000 more Hoosiers are employed than in 2005. Efforts by the new Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), which Daniels and lawmakers teamed to establish, have helped create nearly 400 business deals, brought $12 billion in new investments and more than 43,000 new, high-paying jobs for Hoosiers.

Beyond the big headlines, we’ve seen much headway here in Allen County as well. More than $71.4 million in new investment has resulted from our state-level job creation efforts.

As the “Crossroads of America,” Indiana is an ideal location to locate and grow a business. Indiana has lower business costs, a highly-skilled workforce, a competitive tax structure, strong economic incentives and shovel-ready sites awaiting development. High-tech jobs are bolstered through technology parks, incubators and top-notch colleges and universities.

Teamwork with Hoosier entrepreneurs will bring even more jobs to our state. If you are interested in expanding or starting an Indiana business, contact our new IEDC toll-free at 1-800-463-8081 or online at www.in.gov/iedc/. Economic development and job creation is everybody’s business!
