EXCITING FALL EVENTS AT LITTLE RIVER WETLANDS PROJECT!
Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting over 1000 acres of wetlands southwest of Fort Wayne, offers a variety of guided hikes and nature presentations August – December 2007. All are free and open to the community. Come one come all to:
Little River Ramblers every Tuesday, 9-11 a.m. Guided nature hike leaves from the barn at Eagle Marsh, on the south side of Engle Road 1/2 mile east of W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne.
Saturday Hiking Club, 1-3 p.m.on the first Saturday of the month. Hike with a naturalist at Eagle Marsh September 1 to learn about “Fantastic Fall Flowers,” November 3 to study “Naked Trees! Tips for Tree Identification in Winter,” and December 1 for “Winter Birding: Brushing Up on the Basics.” Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, south side of Engle Road 1/2 mile east of W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne. On October 6, hike at Arrowhead Marsh (take Redding Drive off of W. Jefferson, turn left on Aboite Road to 1/8 mile on the left) to learn about “Changing Seasons.”
Breakfast on the Marsh, 8-10 a.m on the second Thursday of every month, offers free breakfast, a nature presentation, and an optional hike at Eagle Marsh for seniors 55+ at Coventry Meadows Clubhouse (just north of the Verizon exit on W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne). Please call 478-2515 to reserve a spot as space is limited to 20 participants. Upcoming topics are “In Flight: Sandhill Cranes” on September 13, “Adventures of an Indiana Master Gardener” on October 11, “A Success Story: Wetlands Restoration at Limberlost and Loblolly Valley” on November 8, and “Natural History of Eagle Marsh” on December 13.
Evening Nature Presentation on September 26, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Conrad Getz, bird photographer extraordinaire, shares marvelous video footage and information about “Indigo Buntings: Effects of Habitat Restoration” at the Aboite Library Community Room, 5630 Coventry Lane, Fort Wayne.
Night Hike on October 29, 6:30-8:30 p.m.Join Little River Wetlands Project’s Executive Director Betsy Yankowiak for “Noctrunal Adventures,” an autumn night hike at Eagle Marsh. Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn on the south side of Engle Road 1/2 mile east of W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne.
Little River Wetlands Project, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit land trust established in 1990. Its mission is to restore and protect wetlands in the Little River watershed southwest of Fort Wayne and to provide educational programs that inspire and challenge individuals to be good stewards of all natural resources.
