THAT’S THE WAY I SAW IT
WHO WAS THE FIRST?
Ever get the idea that what you read in books may not be true. Heaven forbid a baseball book not stating true facts.
The other day I picked up the book titled, “Baseball An Encyclopedia Of Popular Culture.” Well, on page 235 they have Bernice Gera as the first lady professional umpire.
She was not!
Amanda Clement was the first.
This book also mentioned that Gail Ingham Berlage wrote a book titled, “Women In Baseball-The Forgotten History.” On pages 59-65 she clearly states that Amanda Clement was the first lady professional umpire.
You can write book publishers and authors but they never answer your letters. In the meantime I am one of the few people that knew who the first lady umpire was.
That’s the way I saw it!
