WAYNEDALE’S TROOP 344 WINS INTERNATIONAL COOK-OFF
The Miami District held their Spring Camporee on May 4-6, 2007 at J. Edward Rousch State Park in Huntington. The camporee marked the 100th anniversary of scouting. In 1907, Lord Robert Baden-Powell founded the Boy Scout movement in Great Britain.
The Spring Camporee added an international flavor by having an international cook-off. The judges had a difficult task of deciding which entry was superior in taste, look, and originality of the dishes prepared.
Second place went to Benoit Academy-Troop 354. Their entry was Polynesian chicken. The winning entry came from Waynedale United Methodist Troop 344. The Wolverine Patrol entered a Polish dish Golabki (cabbage rolls). W.U.M.’s other entry was the Flaming Arrow’s Chicken Fettuccini.
The scouts sure ate well that evening. At the Klondike in January, Troop 344 also won a food cook–off competition with their venison lasagna entry.
The camporee closed on Sunday morning with a religious service given by Troop 344. John Dukarski, Sean Driscoll, and Nathan Seelye led the scouts in song and prayer.
Hats off to Bob Henisier for putting the camporee together.
Any boy age 11-17 looking to join Boy Scouts can call Andy or Doni Dukarski at 478-9033. Troop 344 meets on Tuesday nights, from 7-8:30pm, at Waynedale United Methodist Church.
