MINOR INJURIES IN WAYNEDALE CRASH

Friday November 11, Chester Charles was pulling out of the Chase Bank drive-up after doing his weekly banking. He turned east out of the drive-up, planning to loop his 1955 Ford pick-up around right and go up the alley towards his home on Elzey Street.

Tony Saine was traveling east on Lower Huntington Road, in his ’91 Chevy S-10 taking the right lane and hoping to turn south on Old Trail Road. Tony saw Chester in the center lane, but didn’t expect him to come back into the right lane.

The two vehicles came together at the fire hydrant across from the Imel Insurance Company.

Sara Perkins, underwriter at the insurance company heard the screeching tires and looked up in time to see the Chevy S-10 t-bone the old red Ford. Sarah recognized Tony as one of her insured…and then noticed that Chester was also one of her insured.

Chester was thrown from his truck and ended up sitting on the sidewalk next to the sheared-off hydrant. He was dazed but able to climb onto the stretcher of his own accord.

His beautifully restored Ford came to rest in the Chase Bank parking lot, tight against a parked ’93 Nissan owned by The Waynedale News. The Nissan sustained minimal damage.

The police report read, “Driver 1 (Chester) said he was pulling out of a private drive onto Lower Huntington Road and intended to go directly into the alley close by. He said he saw vehicle 2 (Tony) at a distance down the road. Driver 1 said he thought Driver 2 was going at a high rate of speed. Vehicle 1 was struck by Vehicle 2 and then Vehicle 1 struck Vehicle 3. Witness left the scene before the arrival of police.” Chester was treated and released.
