NEW HEAD FOOTBALL COACH AND ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AT WAYNE HIGH SCHOOL

Adam Swinford graduated from Wayne High School in 1995. He grew up on Muldoon Road just 1/2 mile from Wayne. While he was studying at the University of Saint Francis he was the Head Men’s Tennis Coach at Wayne. Now he is Wayne’s Athletic Director. Adam takes over the A/D position from Murray Mendenhall and still seeks Mendenhall’s advice on matters he is unfamiliar with.

Adam is married to Jessica and they have two daughters, Reagan-4 yrs. and Peyton-18 months. He played baseball at the University of Saint Francis. After graduating from St. Francis he received his Masters Degree and his Administrative license from Indiana University.

Adam began his teaching career at Indian Village Elementary and from there he moved to Ben Geyer Middle School. He has coached track, baseball, basketball and tennis.

Adam said, “I would like to get the community more involved in Wayne High School. We need to communicate to our neighbors the great things that are happening at this high school.”

 

GETZ NAMED HEAD COACH AT WAYNE

Larry Getts is the new Head Football Coach for the Wayne Generals. Larry is originally from Whiting, Indiana, where he attended high school at Hammond Clark. He is a graduate of Elmhurst College, which is on the west side of Chicago. Larry is married to Karen and their children are Trisha, Casey, Chad, Jeremy, and William.

Larry was busy coaching his new football team on Friday afternoon, August 5. There were three groups of football players spread over the entire practice field. It was a cloudy hot afternoon, but the team was working in full gear, running through the football drills that would prepare them for the coming season.

Larry said, “We need to first teach these kids how to be competitors, after that we can start thinking about winning and losing.”

Larry previously was the defensive coordinator for the Lake County Steelers, a semi-pro team in Lake City, Indiana. Larry brings to Wayne High School 24 years of football experience and new hope for the coming football year. Wayne’s first game will be at home against Bishop Luers on Friday, August 19.
