STUDENTS JUMP ROPE FOR EVERYONE’S HEART

On Thursday, February 26th the Maplewood Elementary School students participated in a fun event. They celebrated Jump Rope for Heart’s 25th Anniversary. These kids joined in the fight against heart disease and stroke by asking family, friends, and businesses to donate to the cause and then they jumped rope All Day Long!

Since 1996, Maplewood Elementary has raised almost $5,500 for the American Heart Association in their Jump Rope for Heart events. More than half of this money was raised in the last

2 years since physical education instructor Ms. Darla Davis has organized the event.

Do you have any idea what $5,000 can do for the American Heart Association?

$500 trains 10 people in Allen County to perform CPR and use an AED (Automated External Debrillator) if someone has a cardiac emergency.

$750 provides 65 fire departments with an educational program that trains EMT’s how to respond to 9-1-1 calls from people with stroke warning signs.

$3,000 provides heart disease and stroke education materials for 30 health fairs at local schools, businesses, malls, etc.

Pretty impressive information and this is what the money from the Maplewood Elementary is doing. These students are true lifesavers!

Jump Rope for Heart involved jumping rope -any which way you can – and learning about the heart. Heart disease is the nation’s No. 1 killer; stroke is the No. 3 killer and a leading cause of serious disability.
