LETTER TO THE EDITOR
What a wonderful surprise to read the article about Mrs. Davis, the longtime Waynedale kindergarten teacher. Mrs. Davis’ picture looked just as I remembered her almost 40 years ago.
I was in Mrs. Davis’ kindergarten class of 1966-67 at the old Waynedale School on Elzey Street. I remember her as a caring and compassionate teacher whose valuable lessons will live with me forever. As I remember, she was a stickler for manners and taught us to care for others who were less fortunate than us. I also remember how she taught us to tie our shoes with the “rabbit” trick.
Another teacher who was a tremendous influence on my life was Mrs. Stanford, my third grade teacher at Waynedale. Our “treat” three times a week was for her to read to the class. The class could hardly wait for her to continue with a Little House on the Prairie story. I always have attributed my love of reading to her.
The lessons taught by these teachers will always be with us. Thank you for the wonderful memories.
