THE VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP

The Wayne Township Trustee Office is proud to provide many outstanding programs. During the cold winter months ahead, the homeless shelter and self-sufficiency programs are two that focus on the critical needs of some of our most vulnerable citizens. The Homeless Shelter, known as T.H.A.F. (Temporary Housing Assistance for Families), houses families for 30 days that have lost their housing due to evictions, fires, relocation, or unlivable conditions. What is very unique about T.H.A.F. is that we are one of the very few shelters in Fort Wayne that can house men with children and entire families with both a husband and wife, as well as, being able to house youth up to 18 years of age that are in a families household.

The self-sufficiency program is designed to assist homeless, low-income families with housing, as well as, the opportunity to reach goals in education, employment, job training, nutrition, budgeting, and many more skills that will allow our client’s to re-enter the workforce and resume careers as self-sufficient tax paying citizens. Each family is assigned a case manager to personalize a comprehensive plan for self-sufficiency based on that individual family’s needs. The Case Manager assists with all basic living needs of the family and makes appropriate referrals as needed, as well as, advocating on behalf of the family. I am very proud of a program that is a model of its own instruction.

Through the generous contributions of our community partners and sponsors, the Outreach Department is proud to announce that we will be sponsoring our 11th Annual Christmas Dinner on Saturday, December 20, 2003 at 5:30pm. The location will once again be at the League for the Blind and Disabled located at 5821 South Anthony Blvd. The goal of the Christmas Dinner is to provide an uplifting holiday experience through sharing a Christmas meal with all the trimmings with homeless families we have worked with throughout the year ensuring that each child and parent receives a gift.

This is an invitation to all families who have worked with the Outreach Department this past year to come out and enjoy a Christmas celebration with the staff of the Wayne Township Outreach Department. The word around town is that Santa will be making a stop with goodies for all the children!
