The DNR offers memorable and useful gifts such as:
• Annual Entrance Permits
• State Park Inn Gift Certificates
• Nature lovers who enjoy cozy getaways will adore a State Park Inn Gift Certificate. The certificates are available in any dollar amount and may be used for food, lodging, or gift shop items. Order by calling (317) 233-6188.
• DNR Annual Entrance Permit
Hikers, tourists, picnickers, swimmers, campers and boaters will use and enjoy the convenience of DNR annual entrance permits. The permits admit vehicles into Indiana’s state parks and recreation areas. They are good from
Jan. 1 until Dec. 31 of the year designated on the card. Resident passes are $18 and non-resident passes are $25. Annual entrance permits can be purchased from most state park or reservoir property offices. Stick the durable plastic pass in a holiday card and give a gift that lasts all year long. Be sure to purchase the 2004 permit for use next year.
CAMPGROUND INFO
Also electricity at Salamonie Reservoir Lost Bridge West campground will be available until the second week of deer season – 1st week is from November 15 until November 22 and the 2nd week is from November 23rd to November 30. I’m not sure when they turn the water faucets off in our state parks but at Salamonie they leave one faucet turned on in the youth campground so there is water available there. Otherwise you might want to take your water with you if you go camping. Try the Internet to see if water is available at your favorite camping spot. Get out now and go camping, or go sightseeing before all the beautiful leaves are gone.

WATCH FOR DEER
You should always pay attention when you’re driving, but it’s time to pay extra attention because of the possibility of deer.
The animals are becoming more active as temperature cools, farmer’s harvest fields and the rutting season approaches.
• Keep track of locations where deer have been seen in the past to avoid being surprised by deer crossings (Dunkleberg Road-Muldoon Road-Hwy 30 are sightings of deer within the past week).
• Be especially cautious at dusk through the early evening hours and in the hours before sunrise, the times of day when deer are most active.
• Reduce speed and be prepared to stop on roads where deer may be present, especially areas near streams or rivers, farm field edges, wooded and densely vegetated areas. A single deer near a road may be followed by several others. Startled deer also can be unpredictable, stopping and starting across a roadway even after seeing an approaching car or truck.
• Drivers encountering deer on the roadway should try flashing their headlights from bright to dim or honking the horn on their vehicle to try to encourage the deer to move on.
• Drivers encountering deer on or near the road can alert other motorists by tapping the brakes.
REBECCA RENNIX IS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF LITTLE RIVER WETLANDS PROJECT
Little River Wetlands Project, Inc. announced the recent hiring of Rebecca Rennix as the new Executive Director. Little River Wetlands Project (LRWP) is a nonprofit organization working to restore wetlands in the Little (Wabash) River watershed in Allen And Huntington counties. Rebecca will replace Mary Berghoff who was the former Director.
Rebecca is a recent graduate from IPFW’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Affairs. While attending college, Rebecca interned with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and later with the Little River Wetlands Project. She comes to this position with a particular interest in the conservation of undeveloped lands and forest ecology.
Rebecca said, “I am enthusiastic about this position and I look forward to all the rewards and challenges it will bring.”
