EDITORIAL

(I found this on my desk this morning. I’ve decided to run it because it sounds like something I could have written and it’s the way I believe. It was written by Roger Garner from Collins, Ohio in the August Newsletter to the DESTROYER EXCORT SAILORS ASSOCIATION – OHIO CHAPTER.)

WHAT DOES OUR COUNTRY STAND FOR????

The recent court case making it illegal to say the Pledge of Allegiance in our schools has shown us, once again, how certain special interest individuals are trying to strip the moral fiber out of the freedoms our forefathers gave us, when they wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I have read these documents over and over again. Nowhere do I see any segregation, by gender or race. The documents states that ‘Every’ citizen has the same rights and freedoms. It does not matter the gender or race of the citizen.

The ACLU and many other groups have stretched the truth and managed to get laws enacted that actually have taken rights away from others, by giving special interests priority over other citizens. This is not what our forefathers had in mind. That is why they did not add anything concerning gender or race into the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Hence our Constitution and the Bill of Rights do not need to be altered or amended in any way to give each and every citizen, of this great nation, equal rights. Their rights and freedoms are guaranteed on an even keel.

It started with Madelyn O’Hara taking prayers out of our schools, with the ACLU fighting long and hard beside her. The ACLU has been very active in keeping sex offenders whereabouts secret, saying it is a violation of the offenders rights. I can say this, The ACLU can not have read the Constitution or Bill of Rights in its proper context. They have done our country a major disjustice by shredding the moral and religious fiber out of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. I personally think the ACLU should be on the 10 most wanted terrorist list because they are tearing away the moral fiber of our nation.

While in the Navy, I was taught to respect the customs and ways of any nation we visited. I have also lived in a foreign nation, respecting its customs and way of life. I know many people in other nations who want to come to America to live. When they do come, they should keep in mind, what that entails. We are a great nation under God and it has cost a lot of blood to get and keep it that way. If they don’t like what we stand for, my first question is, why did you come here? My next question is, if you do not like it, why don’t you save your money and leave. Many of these people want our money, but don’t want our way of life.

Don’t get me wrong, most of them want our way of life also. Down through the many years this great country has been alive, we have gone through many wars, shed a horrible amount of blood and sacrificed a lot. Why should we allow the legal wranglings of a narrow minded ACLU and other groups like it take our rights away from us. The only way we can fight it is to let our government know what we think. Ours is a rare nation. We have the right to do just that. We are guaranteed freedom of speech and religion and enterprise. I think all of us have taken this for granted. We are seeing segregation implemented by our legal system, not the guarantee of equal rights for all.

They are tying the hands of our police forces and preventing us from defending ourselves. Tie this in with the recent greed of Corporate executives, who think they have a right to take everything away from their employees, leaving them penniless. This is out and out thievery. They deserve more than a mere jail sentence. Anyone who has been to war knows what it is like to depend on your fellow man or woman. It takes a team. It’s about time working America stood up and demanded a fair shake. We just haven’t come to that bend in the road yet. But it isn’t far away. We still have time to correct it.

Remember, we are given the freedom ‘of’ religion, not the freedom ‘from’ religion. Please get in touch with your legislators and let them know how you feel. Many newspapers publish their addresses and E-mail addresses. You can also get them at your local library. It is not my objective to upset anyone here. I just feel there are forces of evil at work within the boundaries of our nation. It is up to us to stop them before they go any farther. Much of what you hear is, “We are doing this for the betterment of our nation.” It is actually tearing this nation apart. The government needs to be back in the hands of its citizens. President Bush ‘ran’ on that. He knows we need to get things back to equality for all. He has a lot of work to do and he knows it. Keep this great nation in your prayers. We fought for her and our families and for the freedoms our forefathers worked so hard to give us. It’s time to get her back where she belongs, “. . . WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.
