I enjoy festivals, especially those with food. I like to sample the different kinds of food that’s cooked in the outdoors. I know there are a lot of other people that enjoy going to the same festivals that I do because there is always a crowd wherever I go. People just enjoy festivals. For two years now we (Waynedale) has made an attempt to celebrate Waynedale Day on Memorial Day with a festival of sorts in the Waynedale Community Park. It only lasts for the biggest part of one day, there aren’t nearly enough food vendors (in my opinion), and there’s no one dressed in period costumes.

I think we should establish a Fall or Spring Festival of our very own. We can call it Waynedale Daze and it could go on for a full week. We could have food vendors come in from everywhere and serve lots of different kinds of food. We could block off Lower Huntington Road and the food vendors could set up on either side of the road from Azars Restaurant to the Scout Cabin at the corner of Lower Huntington Road and Ardmore Avenue.

We could have a giant flea market and everyone could empty out their garages and get rid of all their antiques and collectibles (junque). Each church could sell pies, cakes, dumplin’s, noodles, and cookies. We could have an Annual Best Cook in Waynedale contest and a buffalo roast. We could elect a Mayor of Waynedale, a Sheriff, and a Dog Catcher. We could have a daily parade with a different Grand Marshal each day and fireworks every night.

Everyone could dress in period costumes (preferably the 1950’s but it could be the 1850’s or the 2050’s). We could have all-night bean eating contests, pie-eating contests, card parties, prizes for the best dressed, worst dressed, least dressed, the overly dressed, and the neatest dressed. We could have a cutest belly button ring contest.

We could have a Miss Waynedale Beauty Contest and a Mr. Waynedale Muscle Contest. We could even have a Mrs. Wayne Dale look-alike contest and let her judge it or a Tubby Hubby Contest and let her husband Wayne judge it. Just think of all the fun this little town of Waynedale, Indiana could have and the money we could generate for building a bigger and better park, helping the poor, or to beautify our streets.

We could have a Waynedale Daze Airplane Fly-In like Oshkosh, Wisconsin and alligator wrestling, and a home lighting contest, and a Rattle Snake Roundup, and a rodeo with wild bull riding, and a circus; we would need a circus. There could be a skillet throwing contest and a pizza eating contest, and a everyone could be a 6-Star Admiral in the Waynedale River Navy, and we could have canoe races on the Waynedale River, and we could have a beard growing contest, and, well . . . you get the idea. I think it would put Waynedale back on the map and if everything went ok, we could eventually annex Fort Wayne into Waynedale and rename it Fort Waynedale.
