LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor,

(Attn: Senator David Long)

I am upset that the State cannot reform a budget in a time of economic turmoil. Every educated human being in the world knows that if you lower taxes across the board enough, that will stimulate the economy. If you raise taxes then you will receive slow growth… How can you totally miss a proven plan? How can a budget be this far in the hole one year after a surplus.

Who cares if you lowered property taxes or trashed the inventory tax? Not everyone in the state has to pay inventory. Your tax cuts help business and higher income families who pay property taxes all the time. The 5% to 6% increase will affect everyone in the state. And it is far more noticeable. Each time I buy a battery, a car, or a gift for my girlfriend the state gets a 1% bigger hunk. 1% is enough of a difference to offset the size diamond I will be able to get. I might have to put it off and go to a different state just to get around your tax increase, Mr. Long.

By the way, the government doesn’t create jobs; business people do. With your complicated tax credits, businesses, and crooks will benefit, not the Indiana taxpayer. In fact the state will have to hire more people to run the tax credit bureaus. More jobs, sure. The taxpayer will be signing their paycheck…

Editor,

(Taken in part from The Firing Line)

I’m an honest law abiding American citizen, with a fine family, a home, etc. I’ve fought for our flag in the Vietnam conflict from 1968/69 and 1970. I was honorably discharged from the Navy after serving two tours as a Seabee throughout that war torn country.

It’s been a proven fact when a government takes away honest law abiding citizens’ right and ability to defend themselves by taking their guns, then only the unlawful, criminal element will have them. Confiscating honest citizens’ ability to defend themselves with guns, they become subjects. They’re then whatever the all powerful government decides they are.

Don’t believe it? Just look at what has happened during the past 5 or 6 years in Canada, Great Britain, and Australia. Mao-Tse Tung was once quoted as saying that power comes out of the barrel of a gun! When we are disarmed, we are at the powerful government’s mercy.

Signed,

Klaus P. Klingenberg
