AREA YOUTH CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF 4-H

For late summer fun for the whole family at an affordable price, it’s pretty hard to beat 4-H Fairs. Opening day for the Allen County 4-H Fair will be on Monday, July 22 and will continue through Saturday, July 27, 2002 at the Allen County Fairgrounds, 2726 Carroll Road. Admission is only $3.

Fairs are like long ago when people would meet at the crossing of the trail, do some bartering, some trading, and some selling. It didn’t take long before other ingredients were added to the mix like food and drink, non-stop entertainment and exciting rides. This year at the Allen County Fair you can see Youth Talent Contests, Tractor Pulls and Derbys, Greased Watermelon Contest, Baby Crawl Competition, Cookie Stacking Contest, Face Painting, Donkey Races, Farmer Olympics, a Demolition Derby, Square Dancers and a whole lot more.

With daily judging competitions and demonstrations, animals are as much a part of the fair atmosphere as the people. Whether it’s Border Cheviot ewes or Santa Gertrudis beef heifers, market lambs or Clydesdale horses, pygmy goats, or baby chicks, animals are all around the fair. Kids arrive with their projects starting on Saturday and in the next few days, they will be clipping, bathing, and grooming their project animal, preparing it for show. Enjoy them as early as 8am on opening day, Monday, July 22nd.

4-H fairs are places to see what people are doing, what they are creating and maybe taking home an idea or two to try. Mark in the dates of the Allen County 4-H Fair to see. It’s not virtual reality. The fair is a real life adventure not to be missed.
