LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Letter to the editor,

(Sent to Journal Gazette)

In Response to Martha Schamehorn Jeers for Fort Wayne High School band directors . . .

Sorry Lady but the Waynedale community as a whole and especially the writer of this letter have nothing but PRAISE for Mr. Carson Kirby and his excellent ELMHURST High School Band for their participation in our Memorial Day Parade. However I will agree with Martha that a greater representation would be appreciated from the local high schools.

Dear Ray,

In our brief meeting the other day you asked about our family. We have seen you but briefly since our sons graduated into the highest rank of Scouting, that of Eagle. Here is a brief rundown on what is going on with our family at this point. We became grandparents but I’ll get to that in a minute. I did like you said and wrote the information like a new article for THE WAYNEDALE NEWS.

Justin Roebel, son of Donald and Lois Roebel of Waynedale, graduated from Indiana School of Law in Indianapolis on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2002. Justin graduated cum laude (with honor) and is currently working part time in the State Attorney General’s office. He is preparing to take his bar exams in July. Justin is an Eagle Scout and was once a member of Boy Scout Troop 44 here in Waynedale. He graduated from Wayne High School in 1995 as valedictorian, and he received his B.A. from Yale University in Connecticut in 1999. He has a girl friend but no plans for marriage just yet.

Son, Damian Roebel, also an Eagle Scout, and also a one time member of Boy Scout Troop 44, works at the service desk at the Meijers Store on Illinois Road and is a volunteer fireman and EMT for the Southwest Allen County Fire District. No doubt the first-aid he learned as a Scout helped him become an EMT.

Sister, Nicole Roebel married Matt Osbun of Fort Wayne in May of 2000 and they are the proud parents of 5-month old Natalie Christine. The family lives in Indianapolis where both Matt and Nikki work for Hewlett-Packard at their computer assembly plant.

Dad, Don Roebel works at the new Von Maur Store in the Jefferson Point Shopping Center. Don is the only full time piano player in all the Von Maur store chain. He plays 35 hours per week. He holds a degree in teaching.

Mother, Lois is a substitute teacher for Fort Wayne Community Schools.

I hope this is what you wanted me to write.

Signed,

Lois

(Associate Editor’s Note: Thanks Lois, we often wonder just what has become of our Eagle Scouts once they have obtained the highest rank in Scouting and have moved on. We are also interested in how their families are doing. Write to us about what your Eagle Scout is doing.)
