THAT’S THE WAY I SAW IT

LIKE FATHER—-LIKE DAUGHTER

TRIVIA QUESTION: Which Fort Wayne college team has both father and daughter involved in its operations?

ANSWER: Indiana Tech Women’s Softball Team.

The two involved are father, Dave Worrel-coach and daughter, Kristy Worrel-player. Both have their roots very deep in Waynedale.

Kristy is now playing her last year of college softball (4 years total) as a first baseman, designated hitter, and one of three team captains. Her major is Recreation Management and her stats show a combined batting average of 270. She started early in baseball and softball programs; like tee-ball which lead to playing 4 years of softball at Elmhurst High School. Kristy also played golf and basketball during her high school days.

Her father, Dave Worrel, also an Elmhurst graduate (1971), is going on his fourth year as Assistant coach for the Lady Warriors. He was a hitting coach at Elmhurst for a span of five years. In 1994 the Elmhurst baseball team went to the regional finals and in 1997 the Trojans batting average was in the top three in the state. Dave has coached summer league teams for 17 years also.

March 8th the team left for Pensacola, Florida and will play such teams as Viterbo College, Brevard College, Blackburn College, Bellevue University, and Ohio Dominican. They will finish their spring training games with a tourney March 15 and 16.

The Lady Warriors first home game will be against Defiance College on Monday, March 25th at 3pm. They compete in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

The Head Coach, Brenda James is looking forward to an interesting season.
