BLHS PERFORMING ARTS ANNUAL PUMPKIN SALE – Be sure to order a pumpkin from a performing arts student – $6 – They are a great size – you may pick them up here in the parking lot October 12 and 13.
BLHS 21st ANNUAL WALK-A-THON
BLHS will hold its Annual Student Fundraiser Friday, October 5 at the school gymnasium, 333 East Paulding Road, at 9:15am following an all school mass. The Walk travels through south Fort Wayne area neighborhoods and Foster Park. Each of Luers 609 students is asked to raise a minimum of $60 in order to participate in the Walk. The money raised is to support general operating expenses for Bishop Luers High School. The goal for the school this year is $35,000.
UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS
Rick Cartwright, Chair of the Department of Art and Visual Communication, has announced that the department will offer art classes for children in grades 1-8 from 9am to 11am on Saturdays from September 22 to December 8, at the Rolland Center for Art and Visual Communication on Leesburg Road between Main Street and Spring Street.
Art Education majors will instruct children in drawing, painting, printmaking, and ceramics. Art materials will be provided. The cost is $75 for one child, $70 for each additional child in the same family and includes all materials and instructional fees. Registrations must be received no later than September 19. USF TO CELEBRATE THE FEAST OF SAINT FRANCIS
WITH A BLESSING OF THE PETS AND INTERFAITH PRAYER SERVICE
Father James Sapp, Director of Campus Ministry at University of Saint Francis, has announced that a blessing of pets will be held on Thursday, October 4 at 6:30pm in front of Trinity Hall on the Spring Street Campus. The blessing of the pets is in honor of the feast day of Saint Francis, patron saint of animals. All children, adults, and their pets are welcome regardless of religious affiliation. Father Jim asks that animals be leashed or otherwise physically restrained. Also, a special interfaith prayer service for peace will be held on Thursday, October 4 at 2pm at the peace pole in front of Bonaventure Hall. USF STUDENT RECOGNIZED BY STATE ORGANIZATION
Dr. Barry Belknap, Associate Vice President of Academic Services at the University of Saint Francis, has announced that USF student Melinda Anne Lehrman, from Decatur, Indiana, is among the outstanding first-generation college students to be honored at the 2001 “Realizing the Dream” banquet on Saturday October 6, 2001.
The honor includes a scholarship presented to the first generation sophomore with the highest grade point average in a four-year program and is awarded by the Independent Colleges of Indiana with funding from the Lilly Foundation. Ms. Lehrman is a sophomore pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at USF.
USF TO HOLD HEALTH CAREERS OPEN HOUSE
USF Office of Admissions will hold a Health Careers Open House on Sunday, October 21 between 1pm and 4pm at the Doermer Center at the corner of Spring Street and Leesburg Road. USF offers degree programs in Emergency Medical Services, Medical Technology, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Physician Assistant, Radiological Technology, and Surgical Technology and pre-professional studies in medicine, physical therapy, dentistry, pharmacy, and veterinary science. In addition, Associate of Science in Nursing, LPN to ASN, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, RN Completion for registered nurses, and Master of Science in Nursing programs are available.
Prospective students and their families will have the opportunity to talk with faculty, tour simulation labs, obtain financial aid information, and learn more about the many health care majors offered by USF. For further information, contact the Office of Admissions at 434-3279 or 800-729-4732.
BURGER KING‚ HALLOWEEN PROMOTION RAISES FUNDS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
Burger King‚ customers who visit any participating Burger King‚ restaurant from now until October 31, 2001 can purchase Halloween fry coupon books for only $1. The fry coupons can be given as a safe alternative to trick-or-treaters this Halloween. The coupons will be redeemable at any participating Burger King‚ from now until November 30, 2001. With funds raised from the coupon book sale, $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to local high school seniors for continuing education. As a result of the program, Quality Dining, Inc. restaurants have presented 14 scholarship since 1999.
