THE VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP
This year our community has seen one of the most telling times for the reasons, and importance of Township Government. Our forefather’s wisdom in establishing Township Government as “the government closest to the people” has benefited over 15,000 families enduring emergency conditions during one of the most difficult years in recent memory. Many citizens have become aware of the great things happening at the Township to serve those struggling the most at this time. But, due to the efforts of our Community Liaison and other Township staff, we inform them not only of what we are doing, but we also take time to find out on a personal basis whether it be an individual or community agency what it is that needs to be done.
There are many important circumstances that have contributed to the current difficulties. The true beauty of Township Government is, that as we become aware of your needs, we can react almost instantaneously. A current difficulty would be the incredible rise in prescription medication costs. One example of our responsiveness would be our special program to help behavioral health patients being released from local hospitals. By helping these citizens with an emergency supply of medications, they can now be stabilized until permanent arrangements for medications can be made. Without this right sized amount of assistance, the far greater cost of starting treatments over would have to be met elsewhere by the community.
I would like to end this week by telling you about the most heartwarming story coming out of our office this year. Those most in need able bodied citizens that are receiving your investment of tax dollars to make it through these difficult times, have been providing community service work through local agencies whose contributions are drastically down. These agencies will realize a contribution of over $200,000 of labor savings so that the majority of funding can be focused on those not qualifying for Township assistance. How beautiful, those most in need, helping others, thanks to the help you are willing to give them first.
