NATIONAL SCHOLASTIC ART & WRITING AWARD
The National Scholastic Art Award starts at the regional level in January of each year. Teachers select and enter works of art to the Fort Wayne Art Museum. These entries come from over 500 middle and high schools from Indiana and Ohio. Over 3000 pieces are judged by three artists in areas of drawing, painting, design and sculpting.
Nate Hoeffel a senior at Bishop Luers High School, won gold for his portfolio and his black dress design. From the 200 gold recipients, all the judges select the top five for the “American Vision Awards”. Nate Hoeffel also received this award! All gold recipients’ work of art from our regional level were photographed and sent to New York for further judging. The number of National gold winners totaled 10,000 entries. Nate Hoeffel won gold in this group from a total of two hundred winners. Nate’s dress design will be on display in New York from June and July 2009.
The award presentation from the National Scholastic Art will be the first week in June. His dress will travel the United States for two years to promote the visual arts!
The design assignment guidelines were to design a project that is only linear design. With that thought, he made the dress that has more than 33 layers of tulle applied in ruffles and a yard of braided trim completing the bodice. Nick, will be attending the Institute of Art in Chicago, IL for Fashion Design. Nick is excited for the recognition for himself and Bishop Luers High School.
