MT. CALVARY LUTHERAN PRESCHOOL GRANTED ACCREDITATION
Sunday, November 7, 2004 was a special day for Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool. After the preschool children sang their praise songs, the three-year old classes were presented with Children’s Bibles, a gift from one of the congregation members. After the service, Dr. David Ebeling, Indiana District Education Executive was there to present the school with a plaque and banner, awarding them with National Lutheran School Accreditation. Mt. Calvary is one of only 4 Lutheran preschools in the Indiana District to attain this status. This accreditation culminated a year of reflection and self-study by staff, the preschool ministry team and congregation members. The self-study program was then verified by a visiting team that was made up of qualified early childhood educators. Over the course of the next seven years, the school will pursue goals written in an ongoing improvement plan. This insures a quality, Christian education for the preschool children and families Mount Calvary serves.
Attaining accreditation now means the preschool will reach Level 4 of the Paths to Quality program of Northeast Indiana’s Early Childhood Alliance. An incentive award of $1000 will be used to enhance the program. Mt. Calvary’s preschool is in its 15th year of sharing the Gospel with the children and families of the church and the surrounding Waynedale community. Sue Doepner is the director and teacher, along with teachers Lori Conrad, Stacey Wilson and Deborah Niemoeller. Amy Turpchinoff serves as aide and Lunch Bunch Teacher.
