STAR FINANCIAL BANK COLLECTS BEARS FOR BADGES
STAR Financial Bank has finished collecting teddy bears throughout its service area for the 4th Annual Bears for Badges campaign. Bank-wide, STAR collected over 3,900 bears and other stuffed toys, which are now being delivered to fire and police stations throughout communities in northeast Indiana. Police officers and firefighters will use them in emergency situations to help comfort and calm children who have fallen victim to fires, accidents, and other unfortunate situations.
Since the program’s inception, STAR Financial Bank has collected over 12,000 bears for victimized children. Alice Huffman, receptionist at STAR’s Anderson main office, who developed the program and whose son is a lieutenant with the New Castle Fire Department, explains the importance of Bears for Badges: “Think about a child who has watched his or her house burn down and all his or her possessions are gone … or a child involved in an accident with a parent hurt. It’s very helpful to emergency personnel to be able to hand a distraught child a bear they can hug and cry on.”
“This year’s program could not have been such a success without the contributions from the bank’s customers, friends, employees, and the many folks from the community who stopped in with one bear, or two bears, or sometimes a whole box full of bears. I’d like to sincerely thank everyone in the Fort Wayne area who contributed,” says Tom Blume, President Fort Wayne Region, STAR Financial Bank.
