DEAR WAYNEDALE READERS
Great things are happening in Fort Wayne as we continue our commitment to you by being a high performance government.
The annual Great American Cleanup is from 8-11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20. If you want to participate, please sign up online at www.cityoffortwayne.org or by calling the City’s Solid Waste Department at 427-1270.
Volunteers will be provided with T-shirts, gloves, flower seeds, and garbage bags. You’ll also be treated to a party at Headwaters Park following the cleanup. The party runs from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. and will feature food, music, games, and raffle prizes. The Great American Cleanup is the country’s largest litter prevention, beautification and community improvement program. Last year, more than 2,000 volunteers helped clean Fort Wayne’s neighborhoods, parks and rivers.
We recently had a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the emergency generator project at the Water Filtration Plant. The generators allow us to continue to provide water to customers and fight fires in the event of a tornado, blackout or any other electrical supply interruption. The generators can run the entire Water Filtration Plant and the high service pumping equipment to the City’s piping system. This project makes Fort Wayne a safer city. Drinking water is critical to our wellbeing and quality of life. We are committed to providing excellent services. The emergency generators will benefit the entire community.
I encourage you to attend the City’s next Leadership Learning Institute program. The initiative features a series of meetings designed to help you learn new skills and strengthen the community. This could be a great opportunity for you to get involved as a neighborhood leader. Leadership Learning Institute meetings are held from 5-6:30 p.m. in advance of the monthly Neighborhood Associations’ Presidents meeting.
Here’s a sample of the upcoming session.
* June 5: Problem Solving in the Community Part II presented by the Solid Waste, Neighborhood Code Enforcement and Housing and Zoning departments. Learn how to turn complaints about trash, housing, and land issues into compliance.
