INDEPENDENT BASEBALL LEAGUES DOING WELL

Independent Leagues in the U.S. have grown to 10 leagues. Minor League Baseball should take notice of this. The USA Today Sports Weekly July 18-24 had a front page article about the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League. They had a game this year that drew 6,000 fans. Independent Leagues have had good success because they do not want to be part of the Minor League Baseball System. One of the closest cities Gary, Indiana, of the Northern League could not be in a Minor League because they are 35 miles from Chicago.

Two years ago I attended a game in Chillicothe, Ohio. The “Paints” have been a member of the frontier league for many years. Their games are much like the way Minor League Baseball used to be. Minor League Baseball should take a very close look to their success. Some teams are doing well located very near some Major League cities.

Independent Baseball will have good growth, past practice, the next 5 years.

We will see what happens?
