PUBLIC SAFETY ACADEMY OF NORTHEAST INDIANA BUILDING DEDICATION
The City of Fort Wayne and the Public Safety Foundation of Northeast Indiana are pleased to announce the building dedication of the newly completed Public Safety Academy of Northeast Indiana on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. The Academy is located at 7602 Patriot Crossing, Fort Wayne, IN, 46816. It is part of Southtown Centre near the intersection of Tillman Road and U.S. 27
At a cost of $26.8 million, the state-of-the-art public safety training facility boasts a 300 seat auditorium, training gymnasium, 16-lane indoor firing range, apparatus bay, simunition room, simulator suite, EMS classroom, wet and dry labs, weight room, mat room, recording studio, planning room and numerous other classrooms and office spaces.
Brent Johnson, Director of the Public Safety Academy stated, “The Public Safety Academy of Northeast Indiana is a first class collaboration of public safety trainers and educators empowered by state-of-the-art technology. This collaboration will develop and deliver world class curricula to ensure the enhanced safety of our region for years to come and provide a model for national homeland security.”
The mission of the Public Safety Academy is to deliver integrated public safety training to all regional first responders, provide education for future public safety leaders in a dynamic learning environment and employ best practices and innovative technology in public safety education and training.
The various training programs that will be offered at the Academy will incorporate knowledge from area law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and educational institutions, including Anthis Career Center, Ivy Tech Community College, Indiana Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), Tri-State University, and Indiana Institute of Technology.
Mayor Graham Richard stated, “This new regional asset serves as a model for public safety training and preparedness. We are building high trust, high performance partnerships with agencies across Northeast Indiana and the Midwest region. Residents will benefit from trained professionals that will have the skills to work together in an emergency. We are a leader in providing excellent services.”
Once operational, the Academy will provide a comprehensive training program for police, fire, EMS first responders, and business and community leaders in the 12-county Northeast Indiana region.
