LOCAL NON-PROFIT DRUMS UP MENTORS IN SUMMER RECRUITMENT
A local non-profit is looking to recruit 300 volunteers over the next 90 days. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana announced its “Shoe Can Make a Difference” campaign June 22 aimed at recruiting adult mentors to serve at least 500 children on its current wait list with 300 more children wanting to get on the wait list.
Connor O’Shaughnessy is the organization’s Marketing Communications Coordinator, and he says recruitment campaigns like these are very successful.
“They’re not just successful. They’re tremendously successful. In the past we’ve raised enough awareness about our mission to exceed our goals by significant numbers.”
This year Big Brothers Big Sisters needs 300 adult mentors to match with children or young adults who need positive role models in their lives.
“This campaign is a priority for us because we’ve matched over 2,000 caring adult mentors to under-privileged or under-represented minority children, and we have at least another 800 kids who urgently need our help,” says O’Shaughnessy.
Each Friday during the three month long campaign, committee members, advocates, board and staff members will wear yellow t-shirts and decorated shoes promoting the campaign. Everyone who helps promote the campaign will have t-shirts, shoes, slogan button, conversation cards, and ink pens to market the local effort.
“The shoes and t-shirts are great conversation starters. It’s a chance for people to reach out and ask campaign volunteers about the campaign, the organization’s mission, and how they can help out,” says O’Shaughnessy.
