PASTOR BLESSES ANIMALS
A collection of different breeds of dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits and birds were brought by their owners to the school entrance of St. Elizabeth Seton parish for the annual Blessing of the Animals on Friday, October 4.
Parishioners, religious education and school families gathered at the entrance of St. Joseph-St. Elizabeth School on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, a 13th century Italian saint known for his love of creation and of animals.
Parishioners sang a song associated with St. Francis of Assisi, “Make me a channel of your peace.” Religious Education Director Molly Slocum did a reading from the Book of Genesis. St. Elizabeth Seton Pastor Father Jim Shafer gave the blessing to the animals and sprinkled them with holy water. Some of the animals liked the sprinkling of water more than others.
