NATURE EVENTS AT LITTLE RIVER WETLANDS

Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting over 1000 acres of wetland preserves southwest of Fort Wayne, offers interesting and informative nature events this summer and fall. Friday, August 13, 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. “Perseid Meteor Shower Hike and Viewing.” Meet at Arrowhead Prairie on the west side of Aboite Road just off of Redding Drive, Fort Wayne. We’ll talk about meteors, constellations and night senses and then relax while we search the skies for streaks of light. Fort Wayne Astronomical Society will bring out telescopes and high-powered binoculars for close-up viewing. Sponsored by Little River Wetlands Project. Free.

 

Saturday, August 21, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. “Phragmites Removal.” Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. Come learn to identify and eradicate this dangerous invasive plant. Bring work gloves if you have them, water and dress for the weather. Volunteer event sponsored by Little River Wetlands Project. For more information, contact Betsy Yankowiak at 260-478-2515.

 

Saturday, September 4, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. “Butterfly Count.” Meet at Arrowhead Marsh on the east side of Aboite Road just off of Redding Drive, Fort Wayne. Learn to identify butterfly species, butterfly biology and lifestyle. Bring butterfly nets if you have them. Sponsored by Little River Wetlands Project. Free.
