HISTORIC FORT WAYNE’S OLD FORT GETS A NEW ATTRACTION
Tom Grant of Historic Fort Wayne is excited to start with demonstrations in their brand new brick oven, located inside the walls of the Old Fort on Spy Run. This historic landmark and popular education center has been maintained since 2004 by Historic Fort Wayne, who recently got news that their license with Fort Wayne Parks was renewed for another 5 years to continue their efforts. Recently, they got the opportunity to complete a project to fill an empty corner of the Fort and further their mission to educate the public about historic everyday life. This started as an Eagle Scout project to put in the foundation, and was helped by Chicago Brick, who were kind enough to provide an older model “pizza oven” at a very sizable discount, and had the Laborers Local #213 and Bricklayers Local #4 representatives put the final bricks on the project. Northeast Indiana Building Trades local union members volunteer hundreds of hours of service in our area each year, and they continue to be dedicated to our community and important landmarks like this.
The new brick bake oven will be used during events to show how our local ancestors cooked in wood fire ovens. For more information about events at the Old Fort or how to check out their newest part of history, please check out www.oldfortwayne.org.
Local unions, Bricklayers Local 4 and Laborers Local 213, teamed up and donated their time to help install a new bake oven at the Old Fort to be used for wood fire brick oven cooking demonstrations.
