4TH GRADERS MAKE AND DELIVER SOUP TO HOSPICE HOME
On January 18th, St. Joseph-St. Elizabeth School 4th graders in Rachel’s Club helped to make and deliver soup for the patients at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home on Homestead Road. The 4th graders made a taco soup and a three bean vegetable soup at the St. Elizabeth campus and delivered the soup to the Hospice Home patients after school.
This was a service project for the 4th graders in Rachel’s Club, which is moderated by Mrs. Beth Keen and Mrs. Kay Lyn Isca. The goal of Rachel’s Club is to implement acts of kindness which is a key tenet of the Rachel’s Challenge program. In September 2012, a speaker from Rachel’s Challenge came to speak to St. Joseph-St. Elizabeth School students. She spoke to them about the ideas and actions of Rachel Scott, the first teenager killed at the Columbine High School shooting in April 1999, which killed 12 students and one teacher. Named for Rachel Scott, Rachel’s Challenge is a program implemented in schools across the United States that promotes Rachel Scott’s ideals of kindness, compassion, and starting a chain reaction of kindness.
