WAYNEDALE PICNIC ALWAYS FUN!

WAYNEDALE PICNIC 2012Waynedale’s “Picnic in the Park” was held this year on August 25th which was our 10th year to host our communities great picnic. As many of you know the gathering is in our Waynedale Park off Elzey & Koons Street and free to the public. The weather was hot and dry with many people getting a good workout all day.

Our picnic was supported and funded by over 160 sponsors this year which many of these are local companies, neighborhood associations and “friends” of Waynedale. This year as previous we honor are sponsors by the “sponsors board” with all the names listed that donate to our picnic. Many sponsors donate yearly and this year some of our top sponsors were: Hanson’s, VFW Men’s Aux, American Legion post 241 Aux & SAL, Quandrant Engineering Plastics, Feuser Heating & Air, The Latern, and Marquart Custom’s Creations.

Thanks to the parks Department for donating the park again and to Kingston for the extra canopies over the kids games.

This year we counted over 1600 people that signed in at our entrance table but adding to that number were over 80 people that were at their “vendor” tables. Many other people worked as volunteers, helpers and others which tally over 150. As some people may have wondered into the park for the first time we can only estimate the rest of the crowd. Estimated 1800+ that enjoyed the day of entertainment, music, games, bingo food and drink.

The picnic grows yearly with new attractions if possible and this year was no exception with the “train ride” around the park for the smaller children. The FFA young adults brought small animals for our enjoyment along with others bringing some horses to ride. Many kids found the moon walk, bunge run, and rock wall (by the Army National Guard) were challenging. The police and fire attended along with Child identification by the Masons made a big hit.

This year at FOP (Fraternal Order of Police) tent was a great give-a-way of 350 children’s bicycle helmets. Several local churches gave out snow cones, suckers, cotton candy and much more. Our picnic was a great success this year and many thanks to all that participated.
