O’BRIEN CHOSEN INDIANA WOMENS GOLFER OF THE YEAR

Kristi O’Brien was recently named the 2011 INDIANA WOMENS GOLF ASS’N GOLFER OF THE YEAR. The award is named after Alice Dye, wife of Pete Dye, an Indiana native who is undoubtly the most famous golf course designer of the last half of the 20th century! He and Alice were actually also at the Indiana Golf Association dinner Thursday, October 20, honoring Jack Barber-inductee into the Indiana Golf Hall of Fame, along with Kristi and other Golfer of the Year winners such as Men’s division, Senior division and some boys and girl Players of the Year in the Indiana Junior golf program.

Kristi won the award largely due to her qualifying for the USGA PUB-LINKS tournament in Bandon Dunes, Oregon, and of course, winning the INDIANA WOMENS STATE AMATEUR Golf Tournament in July at ironically, a Pete Dye Indy course, The Fort Golf Club. Her 8 under par score was the best winning score in, at least, the last 7 years. It may have been the best score ever. But until 7 years ago, nobody kept track of the winners’ score!

Kristi also had the best Fall of her college career. Though she didn’t win one, in 6 tourneys, she had 5 top 10 finishes, including 3 top 5 scores. Her best finish was 2nd place out of 87 college golfers. She broke her own 2010 school record for the season’s best tournament average in IUPUI history.

Congratulations Bishop Luers grad Kristi O’Brien!
