The Fraternal Order of Eagles #248, Bluffton Road recently held a golf tournament at Donald Ross Golf Course and a Casino Night to raise funds for Troop #3344. The two events raised $1270.00 for the Venturing Scouts in Waynedale sponsored by The Waynedale United Methodist Church.
The old fashioned family values is carried on through the Boy Scouts of America group like the one here in Waynedale. They don’t just learn an oath and promise-these boys live it.
FOE representatives said, “Our commitment to the community include events like this. We are proud of the young people here in Waynedale and look forward to supporting them.”
The Venturing program of the Boy Scouts of America is not only for young men but also for young women who are 14 years old or 13 years of age and have completed the eighth grade and are under 21. According to the Boy Scouts of America website, “…the Venturing program has been designed to provide positive leadership experiences, yet with challenges and adventure.” All of the Venturers are required to teach what they have learned to others.
The Waynedale United Methodist Troop #3344 began their Venture unit in December of 2010. According to several Venturing members, the co-ed group has or will soon be participating in survival camping, rock climbing, canoe trips, whitewater rafting and of course the traditional camp.

To become a Boy Scout, a young man must be at least 10½ years old and have finished fifth grade, or 11 years old. The youngest boys can start out in Cub Scouting, cross over to Boy Scouting and continue through age 18. As you have read, in addition, Boy Scouts of America now has “Venture Crews” that are for boys and girls from 14-21 and focus on leadership skills. If you have an interest in scouting you may call Anthony Wayne Area Council 260-432-9593 to obtain more information.
