THAT’S THE WAY I SAW IT

INTER-STATE BASEBALL LEAGUE 1900

The other day I was looking through the Encyclopedia of Minor League Baseball and came across the 1900 Inter-State Baseball League stats. The teams in the league proved to be quite interesting.

The Dayton Veterans, Fort Wayne Indians, Toledo Mud Hens, Whelling Stogies, Mansfield Haymakers, and the Columbus Senators were all purchased by a group from Anderson, Indiana on August 22, 1900.

The Inter-State League operated from April 28th to September 16 in the year 1900. The Fort Wayne Indians (ranked 2nd) beat The Dayton Veterans (ranked 1st) four games to three in the playoffs.

Jack Glasscock and Joe Hubbard were the managers of the respective teams. Jack Glasscock played 17 years in the Major Leagues. Jack also played ball from 1887-1889 with the Indianapolis Hoosiers of the National League.

Trivia Question:

Did Fort Wayne ever beat Dayton in a playoff?

Yes, 108 years ago.
