THAT’S THE WAY I SAW IT
JAKE THE DIAMOND DOG
We have seen Jake several times at the Wizard’s games; this is however the second Jake. The original Golden Jake trained by Jeff Marchal became a national entertainer when he appeared at Waterfront Park in Trenton during the season of 1994.
Trenton was an AA affiliate of the New York Yankees. The “original” Jake suffered a stroke on March 18, 2007 and died the next day at 14 years of age.
“The new dog has taken over,” stated Jeff Marchal of Harrod, Ohio. “I thought I was big, I thought I was tough, but this has been a rough road,” stated Marchal.
The new Jake has a similar act picking up bats, delivering drinking water to the umpires, catching frisbees, and even signing autographs.
He appeared at the Wizard’s game on June 26, 2008 and there was a long line of kids waiting to pet Jake.
Both Jakes have appeared in many AAA, AA and A parks with the latest being Buffalo, NY. He is also starting to do football games.
Long live Jake the Diamond Dog.
