LITTLE RIVER WETLANDS PROJECT APPOINTS BOARD

Little River Wetlands Project, a nature organization that restores and protects wetlands in the Little River watershed southwest of Fort Wayne, has appointed a group of business and community leaders to serve as its General Advisory Board. A regular twelve-person board oversees LRWP’s day-to-day operations, while the General Advisory Board members will be available for advice in such areas as financial management, strategic planning, landowner relations, history of the Little River valley, and broader community outreach for LRWP’s free nature recreation and education programs. A Science Advisory Board will be appointed this spring to advise the organization on issues related to the management of its three preserves and the plants and wildlife found there.

“We think it’s smart to get the help of these very knowledgeable people in areas where they have special expertise, and we appreciate that they’re willing to be available to us,” says Thom Maher, board president of LRWP. “The response when we approached prospective Advisory Board members was very encouraging–almost everyone we asked said yes. We look forward to benefiting from their expertise as the organization continues to grow.” LRWP just added another 22.4 acres of forested wetland to its Eagle Marsh preserve on Engle Road and, with a conservation easement it holds, now protects well over 1,000 acres in the Little River valley stretching from Fort Wayne to Huntington.
