DELLA E. SPRINGER HILSMIER, 91
DELLA E. SPRINGER HILSMIER, 91, of Ossian, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Ossian Health Care & Rehab. born December 3, 1916, in rural Allen County, she was the daughter of the late Gust E. and Annette (Dettmer) Springer. She married Orville Hilsmier on May 29, 1938 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church; he died on April 17, 1986.
She was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 16933 Thiele Road where she was involved in various church activities. She was also involved in many community activities.
“There was always room for one more at the table, one more on her lap and she gave unconditional love.”
Surviving are one son, Orville Hilsmier Jr. of Ossian; three daughters, Ellen (General) Jackson and Ann Voors, both of Fort Wayne, and Donna (Mike) Hippensteele of Ossian; one brother, Kenneth Springer of Ossian; four sisters, Linda Caston of Ossian, Mildred Menze of Fort Wayne, Bernadine Brewer of Ossian, and Joann Voelker of Hoagland; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two children, Robert Hilsmier and Annette Bunnell; granddaughter, Chandra Bunnell; two sons-in-law, Tom Voors and Bill Bunnell; four brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church on Thiele Road, with visitation one hour prior. The Rev. Dr. Nathan R. Wadewitz officiating. Visitation also from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elzey Patterson Rodak Funeral Home, Ossian. Burial in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.
