SPRINGTIME IN LOUISVILLE

At last, we can take off the coats and hats, toss the gloves, and relish the change in weather. Springtime has come to Louisville. I know that you in the Fort do not have the flowering dogwoods, daffodils, and lawns covered with dandelions yet, but we are just about two weeks ahead of you. The kids are silly, giddy, in fact, and have spent the day with us. I took them to a movie which turned out to be a mistake. What has happened to movies? The ones that are supposed to be for kids are vulgar and suggestive. So are the TV programs. I hate to sound like an old foggy, but what in the world is added by putting swear words and innuendoes into material meant for children? Well, lest I sound l like I am a babbling old lady, I will go on. But…I remember the turning point in movies having profanity, and it was in Gone With the Wind, when they let Rhett Butler say, “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.” It seems to have taken off from there and not even the Disney movies are safe for children’s consumption. The movie I took them today seemed innocent enough: Larry, the Cable Guy. Now, who in the world would think that something that is touted as a silly comedy could be so disgusting? I almost walked out with the kids after ten minutes, had they not been laughing so hard. I just don’t get it. I’m quite sure I’m over the hill.

Anyway, when we got home, I talked them into some yard clean-up (for a price) but they were easily distracted. I had visions of all those twigs being picked up from the lawn, and it seems they were more happily engaged playing in the trees. Give me strength. Well, for today, I decided that I would take a picture of the kids and that will have to do. I hope the flowers and trees bud out soon for all of you, and that you can talk your kids and grandkids into doing some yard work. Happy Spring, my friends, Mae
