THAT’S THE WAY I SAW IT

FOLLOW-UP, BASEBALL NOT PROMOTING THE GAME

With a three hour 3-2 game not being too exciting, baseball is again promoting everything but the game itself.

Baseball America has brought that out this summer. “It’s time for Minor League Teams to try to break a variety of obscure world records.”

Norwich broke the Myrtle Beach Pelicans world record (pending certification) for the most people wearing Groucho Marx glasses (3,148 fans).

The Bowie Baysox set the record in 2003 for the most people brushing their teeth simultaneously and will try to break Japan’s record of 3,790 people sitting on whoopee cushions.

This year’s Major League calendar stated the Lakewood Blue Claws of the Class A South Atlantic League on July14, 2002 gave away free whoopee cushions to the first 2000 fans. This event was sponsored by B&M Baked Beans.

Some day we might read in a newspaper; “Baseball will be played tonight.”

These promotions are how baseball sees the American Pastime?

That’s the way I saw it!
