CRIME PREVENTION NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
The National Night Out started 22 years ago, as a show of solidarity within the neighborhoods. It was a statement to criminals that neighbors were joining with neighbors to work together to combat crime. “Initially people across the city would turn on their porch lights on a given night as a statement of recognition of the crime problem in the city,” said Beulah Stoker, of Southeast Neighborhood Association. “Then we decided to concentrate our efforts to bring people together in a gathering which involved the city police and fire departments.”
The evening of fun was held at the Sears Pavilion, across from Hall’s Restaurant on Bluffton Road.
