IT’S ALL ABOUT BALLET

There is a new addition to the Waynedale business world. All-American City Ballet has taken up residence at 7001 Ardmore Avenue. New proprietor Shay Evans says she is excited. “I now have a beautiful 5,000 square foot facility which will provide the room that I need to mark a show.” “It is a professional size dance studio that will come in handy when the Moscow Ballet brings its “Great Russian Nutcracker” to the Embassy Theatre for the 2005 season.” Shay serves as coordinator for the area dancers who perform with the company of 50 Russian dancers.

Embassy Theatre’s “Great Russian Nutcracker” show is scheduled for November 30, 2005. There will be an audition in September and all students are encouraged to participate. There is no charge to audition, however you must be between the ages of 7 and 14, and at the intermediate to advanced level in training. Ballet training is optional. Speaking the language of dance (acting and character expressions) is necessary.

All-American City Ballet (formerly known as Covington Pointe School of Dance) offers classes in pointe, ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and tumbling. Students may begin their training at the age of 3. Although many dancers start as young as possible, many others, especially men, do not start until very late. It is not uncommon for a man to start taking ballet at the age of twenty-two and become a professional dancer.

To become a dancer by the literal definition of the word all one has to do is dance, but to become a professional ballet dancer one has to take several years of training. So whether you are interested in expressing yourself through dance, or starting your dance training to become a professional, experience All–American City Ballet with expert contemporary Ballet theatre training by Shay Evans. Register now, fall classes will begin on August 22. Open house and registration is on Saturday, July 16 from 10am to 3pm.
