INDIANA NATIONAL GUARD RELIEF FUND RECEIVES $30,000

The Indiana National Guard Relief Fund received $30,000 dollars from The Evan and Susan Bayh Foundation.‑ Senator and Mrs. Bayh serve on the Board of Directors of the foundation, which is funded largely by leftover contributions from Senator Bayh’s campaign for governor and makes charitable contributions to important Hoosier causes.

“Hoosier National Guard members and their families make countless sacrifices on behalf of our nation’s security year-round through their selfless, idealistic work,” Senator Bayh said.‑ “They work without complaint, even at this time of year, when their service keeps them away from loved ones during the holidays.‑‑I encourage those families that are fortunate enough to be able to enjoy the holidays together to recognize the sacrifices made by our National Guard members by supporting the Indiana National Guard Relief Fund.”

“On behalf of the men and women of the Indiana National Guard, I want to say thank you to Senator and Mrs. Bayh for this donation,” Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger said.‑”Senator Bayh has been a tireless advocate for the men and women in uniform.‑From his relentless efforts to ensure armored vehicles get to the soldiers in the field to donating money to aid soldiers families during the holiday season, he has demonstrated his commitment to the men and women in uniform.”

The Relief Fund helps Hoosier National Guard families facing economic difficulties due to the service or deployment of a family member.‑A family that incurs a financial hardship that resulted from a soldier being mobilized, such as a reduced difference in pay, can request a grant up to $5,000.00. A committee has been put in place to review these applications as they arrive.‑ There is also an emergency process in the event a family has an immediate need.

Tax-deductible contributions can be made to the Indiana National Guard Relief Fund at any time during the year.‑Donations should be mailed to the Office of the Adjutant General c/o Lt. Col. Larry Powers, 2002 South Holt Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46241.

Families who require financial assistance should contact their soldiers’ unit of assignment to begin the process.
