WHAT IS SUCCESS?
My dad once said, “If you ain’t havin’ fun doin’ what yer doin’, you shouldn’t be doin’ what yer doin’.” Later on I bought a book at a garage sale, DO WHAT YOU LOVE; THE MONEY WILL FOLLOW. I would like to add, “. . . and base everything you do on service to others.”
John F. Kennedy said, “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.”
I think he was very close but looking from a political point of view. I think the last part of his quote should be, “Ask what you can do for others.”
The Boy Scouts of America is a ‘service to others’ organization. Their law: A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent, mainly speaks of doing for others first and putting oneself second. Money, happiness, and success should all follow.
I have found that the more I give to others, the more there is for me to give. I think God plans it that way. The more you give of your money and yourself (and enjoy doing it) the more God will enrich your life and the more he will give back to you (to give to others). God loves a generous giver.
Warning: Don’t go out and give away $1 dollar bills expecting God to replace them with $1,000 dollar bills; it doesn’t work that way.
Have fun “doin’ what yer doin'”, be of service to others, and give all that you can – you will be rewarded.
