AVA MAE KUMFER, 86
Ava Mae Kumfer, 86, died Thursday, September 18, 2003 at Saint Anne Home & Retirement Community. She was the daughter of Ora Day and Ruth Hazel (Teachout) Bellard.‑‑A native of Coldwater, Michigan, she was educated in the Michigan schools.‑‑She moved to Fort Wayne in the 1930’s. From 1937-1938, she attended Betty Jean’s Beauty College in Fort Wayne and was employed there for 2 years. She moved to Columbia City, Indiana in December, 1983.‑‑She married Elmer E. Kumfer on March 30, 1940 at St. Patrick’s Church in Fort Wayne.‑‑She was a housewife and homemaker and was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City. She loved to work with her hands, doing knitting and crocheting. She was preceded in death by a brother, Max Bellard, a sister, Marie Alred, and by her parents. Her husband, Elmer E. Kumfer passed away September 9, 1998.
She is survived by 2 sons, Earl T. (Nancy) Kumfer and‑‑Edward E. Kumfer, both of Fort Wayne; daughters, Rita M. Sonsel, Huntsville, Texas, Alice A. Goldwood, Columbia City; Indiana; 10 Grandchildren, and 9 Great Grandchildren.‑‑
Rosary service was held at 3:30pm on Monday, September 22, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City, Indiana.‑‑Funeral mass was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 with 1 hour of calling prior to the service at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City. Father Larry Kramer officiated. Burial was in St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery, Columbia City, Indiana. Memorials, in Mrs. Kumfer’s memory, to Saint Anne Home & Retirement Community or to masses at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church.
