Waynedale Political Commentaries

MAYOR GRAHAM RICHARD

As the year comes to an end, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight the progress my administration has made in street, curb and sidewalk improvements in the Waynedale area.

Since 2000, the City has invested more than $5 million in street repair and resurfacing and curb and sidewalk replacement in the fourth Council district. Major projects in that time have included: Engle/Ardmore, the Broadway viaduct and Covington Road in 2000, the Freeman-Taylor intersection, Sandpoint Road and Cle Elum Drive in 2001, and Ardmore Avenue from Lower Huntington Road to Covington Road, Belle Vista Boulevard and Jefferson Boulevard from Catalpa Street to the Saint Mary’s bridge.

Those are just a few of the larger street projects completed by the City of Fort Wayne and its contractor in the last three years. There have been dozens more conducted by our street department, many neighborhood improvements like the Lakewood Park work. With the support of Fourth District Councilman Tom Hayhurst, the City will continue to make street and other infrastructure improvements in the future.

Community Investment Projects (CIP) slated for 2003 in the Waynedale area include total reconstruction of Gilbert Drive and Reserve Line Road. In addition, there are plans for a new roadway to be constructed at Ardmore Avenue and Indianapolis Road and parts of Bluffton and Commercial Roads will be resurfaced.

Investing in our neighborhoods is one of the most important steps local government can take to ensure the safety and satisfaction of its citizens. I am glad the City has been able to make these many street improvements in the Waynedale area.
