F.O.E. AUTISTIC AND BLIND BENEFITED MAX
Recipient, 10-year old Max Ulrich enjoyed the day dancing with his mom at the Fraternal Order of Eagles #248, Bluffton Road. Max is the son of Cheryl and Dan Ulrich, Winters Road. He is a 3rd grade student at Brentwood Elementary and the money raised on Sunday will go towards a sign language class to personally assist Max.
What is autism? “Imagine a song stuck in your head…and it never goes away.” “Imagine people’s voices sounding so loud, they’re like fire engines.” “Imagine your soft cotton T-shirt feeling like a burlap bag.” “Imagine someone’s simple loving touch feeling like fire.” The simplest answer is that “autism is a condition in which the brain doesn’t work right.” For many, the only reference you may have to autism is the performance of Dustin Hoffman in the movie “Rain Man.”
Autism usually appears during the first 3 years of life. It is often hard to diagnose. The causes are a mystery…and no cure is available. But there is hope…communities like Waynedale and businesses like the Fraternal Order of Eagles #248, Bluffton Road contributed to Max’s hope.
