KEKIONGA MIDDLE SCHOOL
On Saturday, October 26, 2002, the Kekionga PTA would like to host their first garage sale. Kekionga patrons and community members may rent a table in our school to sell your garage sale materials. The fundraiser for the school would be in the renting of the tables and running the concession stand. NO percentage of your sales would be required. We need to proceed with the table rentals in order to proceed with the advertising, etc. Table rental is $10. Any questions, call Terry Stephens at 747-9351.

TUFWC HOSTS ANNUAL HARVEST CARNIVAL
TUFWC hosts its annual Harvest Carnival Thursday, October 31, 2002 from 5pm to 8pm in the Gerig Activities Center. Children ages 3 to 10 are welcome to participate. Admission is $1.50 per child, accompanying adults, and children under 3 are free.
The carnival includes games and activities such as: putt-putt, bean bag toss, Frisbee throw, face painting, balloon animals, double digital basketball, and two moonwalks. Candy and prizes are given to all children who attend. In addition, the Carnival will feature a special guest appearance of Dinger, the Fort Wayne Wizard’s baseball team mascot throughout the evening. Door prizes will be given throughout the evening for children and parents (must be present to win). There is a designated area for small children with games and other activities (coloring and crafts) geared toward their interests. The carnival, sponsored by Taylor University’s student development and Taylor Student Organization (T.S.O.), is a community outreach effort to provide a safe “ALTERNATIVE” to Halloween for children. TUFWC TO PARTICIPATE IN SERVICE PROJECTS
TUFWC seeks opportunities to serve the community: one such avenue to accomplish this purpose is through her 5th Annual Community Service Day set for Saturday, November 9, 2002 from 8am to 12noon. TUFWC students, faculty, staff and administration will participate in service projects to support community organizations, area neighborhood associations and worthwhile causes in Fort Wayne. Service teams from TUFWC, organized by academic departments, will consist of students, faculty and staff alike. Two hundred participants are expected to engage in the meaningful service and learning experience. At the conclusion of the service opportunities, project teams will return to campus for a celebration meal and program of sharing.
Projects from previous years have included: painting over graffiti on area walls, bridges and abutments, fall clean-up at West Central Neighborhood Ministry, assistance in a renovation project at Love Church, cleaning education equipment at Brook Mill and Study Elementary, hosting a “reading fair” for community children at the Euell Wilson Center, and trimming hedges and weeds, along with other miscellaneous yard work, in several neighborhood associations. The morning of service will conclude with a celebration lunch held in Eicher Commons. UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS
Rick Cartwright, Chair of the USF Department of Art and Visual Communication, has announced that the Annual Art Faculty and Alumni Art Faculty and Alumni Exhibit will be held from Saturday, October 12 through Saturday, November 2, 2002. The show will be in the Weatherhead Gallery and the Goldfish Gallery in the Mimi and Ian Rolland Center off Leesburg Road on the southeast corner of the campus.
A variety of artworks in all media, created by faculty and alumni of the department, will be on display. The opening for the exhibit is Saturday, October 12, from 7pm to 9pm in the Weatherhead Gallery. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, from 9am to 5pm and Saturday from 9am to 3pm. The public is welcome. There is no admission charge.
INDIANA OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSOCIATION PRESENTS:
CONFERENCE ON VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS AT USF
The IOTA will hold its fall meeting at USF on Saturday, October 26, 2002 to discuss visual impairments. The conference will focus on the challenges faced by children and adults with visual impairment and how to overcome barriers in treatment and in the environment. Sessions will present a functional overview of eye structure and disease processes, low vision devices and compensatory methods, new experimental treatments, reimbursement/documentation guidelines, assessments and adapting curriculum for school-aged children, and driving/community mobility concerns. The conference meets from 8:30am to 4:30pm in the Doermer Center on the USF campus. Cost for attendance is $75 for non-OTA members. HEALTH CAREERS OPEN HOUSE AT USF
USF Office of Admissions will hold a Health Careers Open House on Sunday, November 10, 2002 between 1pm and 4pm at the Doermer Center at the corner of Spring Street and Leesburg Road. USF offers degree programs in Emergency Medical Services, Medical Technology, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, and Surgical Technology and pre-professional studies in medicine, physical therapy, dentistry, pharmacy, and veterinary science. In addition, Associate of Science in Nursing, LPN to ASN, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, RN Completion for registered nurses, Master of Science in Nursing, and Master of Science in Physician Assistant programs are available. Prospective students and their families will have the opportunity to talk with faculty, tour simulation labs, obtain financial aid information, and learn more about the many health care majors offered by USF. BISHOP LUERS HIGH SCHOOL
BLHS announces its Annual Scholarship Exam on Saturday, November 9, 2002 from 8:30am to 12noon. No advance registration is required. The test will be given in the school cafeteria with registration beginning at 8:15am. Students are asked to bring $6 to take the test and two #2 pencils. All 8th grade students are welcome to attend. EVANS TO PLAY IN LUCE CONCERT BAND
Jesse Lee Evans of Fort Wayne will be playing tenor saxophone in the Luce Concert Band at VU for the 2002-2003 academic year. The Luce Concert band is an auditioned symphonic band focusing on the development of skills that forms the core of the University Community Band and also rehearses as a separate ensemble. Jesse Lee Evans, a freshman at VU, is majoring in music education in the College of Arts and Sciences. He is a 2002 graduate of Paul Harding High School and is the son of Laura Evans of Fort Wayne and Richard Evans of New Haven.
CLARK NAMED OFFICER AT VU
Brent Clark of Fort Wayne has been named an officer of the Interfraternity Council at VU for the 2002-2003 academic year. The Interfraternity Council creates and maintains cooperation and coordinates interfraternal affairs among member fraternities. The IC governs the nine fraternities on VU’s campus. Brent Clark, a junior at VU, is majoring in political science in the College of Arts and Sciences. He is a 2000 graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School and is the son of Terry and Susan Clark of Fort Wayne.
