CALVARY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH CARILLON (CHIMES/BELLS)
Calvary United Methodist church is located on Winchester Road at Baer Field Thruway. Calvary’s ‘carillon’ has been ringing out the melodies of familiar hymns to the community for over thirty years. The system was presented to the church by Ruth Artman, who was its choir director at that time. It is currently set to chime at 8am, noon, and 5pm weekdays, at noon on Saturdays, and at 10:45am on Sundays.
The present unit is obsolete and the tapes are no longer available. There are just a few tapes left and every few months another tape becomes unusable. A new state-of-the-art ‘carillon’ with 100 hymns internally stored and selectable has been quoted to the church at about $6,000 and is proposed as a worthwhile project if funds can be raised. The New Builders Class of Calvary has pledged the profit from a May 19th STEAK DINNER towards purchase of the new ‘carillon’. Any person or organization interested in contributing toward the new ‘carillon’ can inform the church office. The phone number is 1-260-747-9218.
