If you have ever been a victim of identity theft and/or identity fraud, then you know just how serious this crime can be. The Wayne Township Trustee’s Office maintains the highest standards possible when dealing with a citizen’s personal information because the last thing needed by a person who is struggling to meet their basic living necessities is additional difficulty and stress. With the Act of 1996 HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), comes the compliance of certain requirements and implementing regulations known as the “Privacy Rule”.
The Act applies to anyone administering or receiving health related information. The effective date for compliance for an employer of fifty or more employees was April 14, 2003 and April 14, 2004 for fewer than fifty employees.
In our organization, there are multiple persons who administer and oversee the compliance – the compliant officer, privacy official and personnel and support services. The compliant officer oversees the compliancy making sure that policies and procedures are being followed. The privacy official is responsible for the development and implementation of the policies and procedures. Personnel and support services both have various duties all to ensure proper accountability practices.
Wayne Township Trustee Office is concerned with the preservation of your privacy rights. Clients, employees and vendors all share personal information that by law must not be revealed to the general public. Your neighbor cannot contact the Wayne Township Trustee Office to find out how much help you have been receiving or what type(s) of assistance you have requested. Wayne Township Trustee Office does provide assistance with prescription medications, shelter, utilities, food and burial for those unable to provide for their own needs. The privacy of our clients is protected by Indiana Statutes.
Applicants must provide a release of information in order for anyone to access any of their personal information. Clients must also give their permission to share assistance data with other organizations. Even records needed by law enforcement must be subpoenaed from the Wayne Township Trustee Office.
The Wayne Township Trustee Office also maintains personnel records and employee medical information for insurance purposes. The strictest confidentiality is also required when working with particular billing information with vendors.
